The brief
Jules Okonkwo. Detroit. A dance night in a warehouse. DJs, a door, a stamp. Once or twice a month.
What it had to live on
A wheat-paste poster, a door stamp, a Tyvek wristband that works at one inch. Wordmark. No polished emblem.
Who it's for
The person who will stand in a line behind a steel door because a friend texted a cross-street.
What the brief told the generator to feel
Photocopy black. Leftover magenta toner. Newsprint. Warning yellow. Temporary.
What the generator had to refuse
The constraints
This used to be Static 88. 88 is a hate code. The generator is not allowed to land on runes, lightning, or Ibiza. Nine is the ninth room they did not get shut down. Temporary has to look like it could get torn down.
The brief asked for leftover magenta toner and warning yellow. So the loud generation put STATIC NINE on construction yellow, a paint bucket, a wrist. Middle went black xerox paste. Quiet went church-basement cream. Loud locked because temporary-and-bright was the night in the brief, not a polished club mark.
Three generations
Same door. Three flyers. The generator returns a night that could get torn down, a night that already did, and a night that is too polite.
This generation locked
Loud generation — warning yellow. This one locked.
Magenta on yellow because the brief named leftover toner and construction yellow. Poster, bucket, stamp on skin. The generator made it look hasty on purpose. That is the warehouse door, not a logo lottery on white.
Middle generation
Middle generation — xerox and paste.
STATIC over NINE in black. Door paste, flashlight, paper wrist. The generator followed photocopy-black honestly. Too quiet if this is the only flyer — the brief also asked for magenta and warning yellow. Middle is the honest paste. Loud is the night.
Quiet generation
Quiet generation — basement.
Cream xerox on black. The generator went church-basement because quiet nights look like that. Too polite for a steel door. You can see the system working: same name, three temperatures.
Why this generation locked
It locked looking like it could get torn down.
Don’t text the address. is door policy, not the logo. The generator did not lock a lecture. The stamp has to work at one inch on skin because that was a required surface. Nine. Never 88.
